This course will provide the skills and knowledge required to complete a professional evaluation of wine. It explores Australian wine styles, wine production, the role of a sommelier, as well as food and wine matching. 

The course is suitable for people within the hospitality industry wishing to learn about the role of an Australian sommelier, and for wine enthusiasts wishing to build their wine knowledge.

What you will learn:

  • Discuss Australian wine styles
  • Discuss basic wine production
  • Identify key styles and grape varieties using sensory valuation techniques
  • Identify basic wine faults
  • Communicate basic information about wine styles
  • Food and wine matching
  • Discuss the role of sommelier, wine list compilation and wine service
  • Taste a range of Australian wines.
