Certified Rioja Wine Academy Diploma

Sydney Wine Academy is delighted to launch this new hybrid course, in conjunction with the Rioja Wine Academy. Rioja is Spain's most well-known wine region and one of Spain’s only 2 DOCa regions. This is a specialised course, which will provide students with an intimate knowledge of the region and covers what a future Rioja wine expert needs to know.

Topics include:

the geography, climate and topography, grape varietals, the human element, the styles of wine that are created, the classifications of Rioja wines, regulations on viticulture and aspects to do with production, gastronomy and history.

The concise online learning platform from the Regulatory Council of DOCa Rioja, Rioja Wine Academy, is brought to life with specialist tasting and review sessions in class by a Certified Rioja Educator.

The course ends with a 30 question multiple-choice online exam with a minimum passing score of 75%. Upon successful completion of the exam, candidates receive the official Rioja Wine Diploma certificate, issued by the Rioja Wine Academy.

Course delivery:

  • This programme has a minimum requirement of 15 hours of study time
  • 4 hours of teaching time with a Certified Rioja Educator
  • 10 hours of self-study and revision
  • A 30 minute exam of 30 multiple choice questions; minimum passing score is 75%*
  • course and exam are in English

  • Official certificate issued by the Rioja Wine Academy upon successful completion of the course. 

Upon receiving the course confirmation email, students will be able to undertake 10 hours of self-directed study by following the link provided. This self-paced study must be completed before attending the face-to-face class.

Entry Requirements

Although not mandatory, we recommend to hold (at least) the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines qualification. Students are required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). More information regarding the USI can be found in our FAQs.
