Capstone California Wines Certification - Introductory Level 1

Sydney Wine Academy is delighted to launch this new hybrid course, in conjunction with California Wines Institute. This course will provide students with an introduction to California wines.  

Students will undertake 6 hours for self-paced study + 3 hours of guided wine tasting with Joe Turnaturi.

What you will learn:

  • Learn how California's geography, the Pacific Ocean, and mountain ranges affect viticulture and wine styles.
  • Acquire fundamental knowledge of grape-growing practices and the specifics of viticulture compared to other agriculture, including the ability to identify and describe the important grape varieties grown in California.
  • Receive an introduction to the American Viticultural Area (AVA) system, including the world-famous AVAs of Napa Valley, Sonoma County, and Santa Barbara County.
  • Explore California's iconic wineries, such as Ridge Vineyards, Frog’s Leap Winery and Robert Mondavi Winery.
  • Learn about the key statistics for California wine in global production, consumption, and exports.

About Joe:
Joe Turnaturi (DipWSET) has travelled to California to complete the educator's course with Capstone. This included visits to Sonoma Valley, Napa Valley, and Lodi.

Additional information: 

  • A personalised California Wine access key will be provided within 72 hours of enrolment.
  • Successful completion of Level 1 Capstone is a prerequisite to studying Capstone Levels 2, 3, and 4.

Students are to complete 11 online units in their own time prior to attending the face-to-face wine tasting
