The Italian Wine Scholar study program is geared for members of the wine trade, and serious wine hobbyists seeking specialisation and certification. It is designed to test your proficiency and is the most advanced and comprehensive specialist program on Italian wine.

What you will learn:

  • History, climate, topography, viticulture and winemaking
  • Wine styles of all the DOC and DOCG regions of Northern Italy
  • Taste a wide range of wines from Northern Italy.

This course was developed and is administrated by the Wine Scholar Guild and follows the format of the successful French Wine Scholar Program. The Sydney Wine Academy is an approved provider of these internationally recognised courses.

All students receive an Italian Wine Scholar full colour printed handbook and access to on-line study material.

Unit 2 is a separate course covering Central and Southern Italy. To achieve The Italian Wine Scholar credential/pin, candidates must study and sit both Unit 1 and Unit 2 examinations.

While not a pre-requisite, we recommend that students have successfully completed, at a minimum, one of the following programs before enrolling in the Italian Wine Scholar program: WSET level 2, Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) or Court of Master Sommelier’s Introductory Sommelier Certificate (Level 1).

As part of your enrolment, you receive a Study Pack and, (for some courses) a set of 6 tasting glasses.  Once you have received your ‘Course Confirmation’ email, these will be available for collection from TAFE, Ryde Campus, H Block Administration Office, 59 Parkes Street, West Ryde 2114.
